Session 1

Alan Wigton, RCHS

Alan will present a reversible and inexpensive japan paper repair method for detached or semi-detached boards of leather bound books.

  • You are welcome to bring a leather-bound book for evaluation and possible repair (under 10 inch tall).
  • The hinge repair will work for a totally detached board, or for boards split at the leather of the hinge but still hanging by the endsheet or inside hinge.

Red rot repair.

  • Red rot is the powdery deteriorated condition of some leather books; sometimes extensive, or sometimes in cracked, broken, or rubbed areas.

Session 2

Mary McKinley, Sherman Room MRCPL

Archival storage containers you can make yourself. Mary will walk you through creating archival flap folders and envelopes. Materials and tools will be provided.
